Start with the service
O2’s service information covers airtime, device arrangements and different SIM account types. Separating the handset document from the mobile service document makes an upgrade or departure easier to understand.
SIM and payment rhythm
O2 distinguishes Pay Monthly from Pay As You Go, including bundle and rolling-plan routes. The replacement SIM must suit the account type. Check renewal settings before assuming a pack stops automatically.
Write down the allowance refresh date, minimum commitment, renewal control and permitted use. These details answer different questions. A plan can renew monthly while still carrying a longer minimum term, and a digital SIM can carry the same airtime conditions as a plastic SIM.
The phone arrangement
Where a device plan accompanies airtime, compare their end dates and any remaining device responsibility. A paid-off phone does not, by itself, tell you whether the airtime has ended.
Ask when the current commitment ends, what remains if you move the number, and whether a handset change creates another term. Save the answer with the agreement rather than treating a promotional description as the contract.
Digital SIM preparation
O2 supports eSIM on eligible Pay Monthly, SIM-only and PAYG services with compatible devices. Installation may use an authenticated account route or provider-issued QR code. Keep that QR code private.
Prepare a reliable connection and keep the old working line available until the replacement has been tested. Never send someone else an activation QR code, password or one-time verification code. A SIM change does not transfer photos or other personal files.
Broadband and shared data
O2 mobile data is a different service from a fixed broadband line. A combined household benefit does not make one agreement a substitute for the other. Identify the provider and technology for each connection.
Use outside the UK
Read the O2 destination guidance attached to your tariff. An international call from home, a call while abroad and a call to a special number may be treated differently.
Postcode and signal evidence
For O2, begin with the current provider checker for the full postcode and compare Ofcom’s Map Your Mobile. Note whether the result describes indoors or outdoors. A map is a prediction, not a measurement from your room. Test voice, SMS and data separately; an issue with one does not prove all three are unavailable.
If the issue began suddenly, check the status page before changing settings. If it appears only in one building, compare near a window and outdoors. If several nearby users have the same symptom, keep a record of the location and time for the provider.
Keeping a number and leaving
An individual O2 account change belongs with the provider. If keeping one UK mobile number, Ofcom’s text-to-switch route uses PAC to 65075; STAC to 75075 is the route when that number is not retained. A code is valid for 30 days. Before submitting it to the destination provider, check any minimum term or separate device balance. For cancellation without a switch, request the provider’s own instructions.
Annual notices and account tools
Read the adjustment wording in the actual O2 agreement and keep the dated notice. Ofcom’s rules from 17 January 2025 require specified in-contract increases on new contracts to be stated in pounds and pence with clear timing. We do not list plan amounts or predict an individual bill. Use the verified provider account or app, where available, for personal records; mestemwell has no access to it.
When a statement looks unfamiliar, identify the service period, device component, recurring airtime and any exceptional use separately. Ask the provider about disputed items through its formal route and retain the response. Do not share the statement or payment information on this website.
